Samples and Procedure
The patient is advised to come to the laboratory in fasting state, where after taking fasting blood sample, parient is given 75 grams of glucose.It is better to give in 7-up which is well tolerated.
•Collect fasting blood and then at at 30, 60,90 , 120.
•Multiple samples are taken at halh hour interval along with urine sample.
•In pregnant lady collect blood at 60, 120 180 min after glucose.
Important facts
1.OGTT is not recommended for to see the complications of DM.
2.Its use also discouraged for the fasting hypoglycemia.
3.In nonpregnant adult and children the OGTT is not recommended as screening test.
4.For pregnant lady 50 G glucose is recommendedfor screening.
5.a serum glucose level of >150 mg/dl at 1 hour ,is considered for further testing.
Normal
•Child fasting : <130 mg/dl
?at 120 min : < 140 mg/dl
?Impaired glucose tolerance in children: Fsating: <140 mg/dl and 120 min > 140 mg/dl
•Adult non-pregnant.
?Fasting : 79-105 mg/dl
?30 min: 110—179 mg/dl
?60 min : 120-170 mg/dl
?90 min : 100-140 mg/dl
?120 min : 70-120 mg/dl
Diabetes Mellitus when
•Fasting glucose = 126 mg/dl or above
•Postprandial glucose 200 mg/dl or above
IMPAIRED GLUCOSE HOMEOSTASIS WHEN
•Impaired fasting Glucose = 110 to <126 mg/dl
•Impaired glucose tolerance = 140 to <200 mg/dl
NORMAL WHEN
Fasting glucose = < 110 mg/dl
Rndom glucose = < 140 mg/dl
For to diagnose Gestational Diabetes At least two values must exceed the follwing values.
